Which Sandpaper Grit Do I Need for Woodturning?
Choosing the right grit makes a big difference to your finish when woodturning.
Coarse Grits (60–80)
Used for shaping and removing material quickly. Ideal for rough turning.
Medium Grits (100–150)
Good for smoothing out tool marks and preparing the surface.
Fine Grits (180–240)
Used for refining the surface before finishing.
Very Fine Grits (320+)
For final finishing and achieving a smooth surface ready for polish or oil.
Most woodturners work progressively through the grits for the best results.
